RV Insurance
What is RV Insurance
RV insurance combines auto and property coverage to meet the unique needs of your mobile dwelling. Like all other forms of insurance, you transfer the risk of certain events to the insurance company. If you own a self powered RV, like a motorhome, you’ll need auto liability coverage in order to legally drive on public roads. Since your RV also acts as a dwelling, you’ll need additional coverage that protects your personal effects or incidents that occur at your campsite for which you’re liable. In return for taking on the risk of these potential expenses, you must pay the insurance company a premium. The premium is paid whether or not you experience a claim.
The insurance company is able to make this work because they collect premiums from many people but usually only a percentage of those people make a claim in a given year. The premium charged can vary from person to person based on a number of factors that the company believes makes you more or less of a risk.
How to Shop for RV Insurance

Figure Out Your Coverage
The first step is to know what RV insurance coverage you need. Some things to consider are:
- What is the value of my rec vehicle?
- How much can I afford to pay out of pocket for costs?
- How do I use my RV? Do I travel around or is it at a permanent site?
- Do I often have guests at my campsite?
- Am I living in my rec vehicle full time?
- What is my estimated net worth?
